Maldives, 04 May 2025 – Maldives youth protest leaders who were arrested by Maldivian police on Friday evening have been released following a day in custody. The leaders, who were remanded for 3 days, were released on Saturday night and have announced their intention to rejoin the protest to seek justice for Yumnu.
International Human Rights Activist Muheed Jeeran has expressed support for the released leaders and vowed to continue backing their cause. The youth leaders are expected to resume their activism and continue pushing for accountability and justice in Yumnu’s case.
The release of the protest leaders comes after widespread condemnation of their arrest, with many calling for their immediate release and an end to the crackdown on peaceful protests in the Maldives. The fight for justice for Yumnu and all victims of injustice in the Maldives is expected to continue in the coming days.
