International Human Rights Activist muheed jeeran Condemned Maldives Police Attack on Youth Protest. here is his statement:
“Maldives Police attack youth who participated in a peaceful protest to seek justice for 22-year-old girl, who was suspected to be raped and attempted murder victim. People connected to high-profile people in Maldives were suspected to be the culprits. The victim is in critical condition and was recently taken abroad for emergency medical attention. Protests erupted a week ago after police were trying to cover up the investigation. The youth protest is continuing for the 7th night today, but today the police brutally attacked the youths who are fighting for a real cause without any political affiliations.
It was reported the young lawyer and activist Abdullah Mahzoom Majid and Aishath Shimon Ahmed were arrested for leading the protest. He was brutally attacked by the police and ripped his shirt. This appalling act of Maldivian police should be condemned, and we are urging the authorities to respect their democratic rights. Recently, Human Rights Watch, which is a leading global human rights organisation, has issued its grave concern against the Maldivian authorities.”
